Grenfell Tower Victim Support

Moved by the the tragedy of the Grenfell building fire, many people in our church community have asked what can be done to love, serve and support the surviving victims. We’ve been in communications with other churches closer to the tower area – finding out what is already being done and how to support. Here’s 3 ways for you to get involved:

GIVE

If you’d like to give financially, please consider giving to one of these funds:

VOLUNTEER

In general, if you would like to volunteer you can email grenfellvolunteers@rbkc.gov.uk with your name, availability and special skills they can offer (eg, counselling).

More specifically, for this week:

Mary Ayers is putting together some small teams of people to cover some of the front line Grenfell volunteers who have been working tirelessly from day one without much rest. The idea is to allow those volunteers some time to rest and access some counselling which has become available to them.  She is looking for help in the week commencing Monday, 3rd July. Mary needs 3 or 4 people for each day to cover at Latymer Christian Centre. The times they are operating are:

Monday -Friday 1-4pm
Saturday 2-5pm

Mary will head up a team Tuesday 4th, Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th for which she needs several volunteers to join.

Your time will be spent doing whatever is needed within the centre, mainly talking to people, collecting financial donations, topping up tea and coffee etc. There may well be times of standing around not physically doing much, this will be taken as vital opportunity to pray.

Please do contact Mary asap if you can help: mary.ayers@london.anglican.org

PRAY

Here are some prayer points:

  • Pray for the families who have lost loved ones in this tragedy – pray for God’s comfort and peace
  • Pray for the authorities and organisations responding – pray for wisdom and for decisions to be made that help the needy, hurting & vulnerable
  • Pray that God would somehow, some way, use this for good. Pray for God’s Kingdom to come, for people to come to know, love and follow Jesus.

I hope that’s a helpful guideline of how you can participate in responding to this horrible incident.
